We will experiment with different rules rule breaking and different approaches to see the changes and contemplating on paradoxes as outlined in the book as it relates to art creation

And we will be painting the same picture in a variety of different methods

Dec 21 - Watercolour birds

Talking about: negative Space the importance of thumnails, placement and action in a thumbnail

Creating watercolour birds in flying motion or still.
-creating movement, distance, as in size, tone, depth to infer space

Dec 14th - Underpaintings


Different processes to painting and underpainting

The first process:
Students will draw a colt with sepia colour. using a mix of ultra and burnt sienna to change the colour value they will create an underpainting. Then using acrylics; paying attention to detail and background colour/tone changes they will complete their artwork.

Dec 7th Thumbnails

Making thumbnails using: 1. shape only as rectangles/boxes/circles  2. using shade only; as silhouette 3. using tonal vales; as sketching

Identifying perspective, shadow and tones

Artists were given a number of scenarios in shadow boxes. Using items of various textures: these included fruit, a metal shiny piggy bank, a fuzzy stuffed rabbit, an aluminum green truck, a baseball with glove, a couple of wooden art figures.
homework:  applying the movement of the human being using figures you may have at hand (a barbie doll)

Foreshortening

Artists were encouraged to create artworks with foreshortening.
